Did you know meat from caged rabbits is being sold in UK supermarkets?

Each year, the meat from 300,000 caged rabbits is imported to the UK from Europe. Some of our biggest retailers are using it to produce pet food. Animal lovers, unknowingly, are feeding their beloved cats and dogs this product of cruelty.

The rabbits spend their entire lives in cramped wire cages, barely able to move. And they remain in these cages until they are sent to the slaughterhouse.

This is torture for a sociable animal whose natural behavior includes burrowing and feeding on grass.

Although rabbits live in family groups, they are highly susceptible to disease. This means they are often given up to seven times more antibiotics than other factory-farmed animals such as chickens.

Thanks to the overwhelming support of the public, we are very happy to announce that Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, ASDA and Pets at Home have agreed to remove rabbit meat products from their pet food ranges.

This is a great start but there is still a lot to be done. We call on the remaining UK retailers to follow suit and stop using rabbits imported from these dreadful conditions. Hopefully, with your help, we can remove caged-rabbit meat from UK shelves once and for all.

Join our campaign and say NO to the use of caged rabbit meat in UK pet food.
