Violeta was a dancing bear for 22 years.

She was kept in a metal cage and fed a diet of bread and alcohol. When we found her in 2003 she was emaciated and close to death.

At 34 years old, Violeta is the oldest of the 26 rescued bears in our Belitsa sanctuary in Bulgaria. And every winter Violeta’s thick, warm fur falls out in clumps. This incurable skin condition has left her covered in bald patches and dangerously vulnerable to the icy temperatures of winter.

Violeta may be the oldest bear in the sanctuary, but she hasn’t given up. In the summer she loves to play in the woods and rivers of her sanctuary home, as a brown bear should.

Please give whatever you can to help provide the full range of specialist care vulnerable bears like Violeta.
