An urgent rescue mission
War leaves behind unimaginable devastation - for both people and animals.
Lioness Wisha faced the unimaginable. Her partner had passed away just two days before our team arrived. She was pregnant when we found her at the Sudan Animal Rescue Centre, among 15 other lions left behind in a high-risk war zone. With water and food quickly running out, their lives were hanging by a thread.
Every life saved was hard-won
This rescue mission was one of the most challenging we’ve ever undertaken. Our team navigated dangerous conditions and heartbreaking losses. Lions like Karim succumbed to injuries, and Leo fought valiantly but couldn’t hold on. Yet, our team never gave up hope of bringing as many animals as possible to safety.
New beginnings at LIONSROCK Sanctuary
At last, 11 lions arrived at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa. After receiving immediate medical care, they took their first steps onto grass in their new, forever home.
Will you sponsor a lion?
In our sanctuaries, animals leave behind inappropriate and traumatic keeping conditions, to experience dignified and species-appropriate care for the rest of their lives.
As a big cat sponsor, you will receive behind-the-scenes access to life at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary from the lion’s caretakers themselves. Not only will you continue to hear about Sam, Mina and Caroline, and the other Sudan lions, but you’ll also get to meet the other residents they share their home with.
So far, we’ve rescued more than 250 big cats, but our work isn’t done. Will you become a sponsor and make our lifesaving work possible?
