Rescued from Europe’s worst zoo

For years Bobby was locked up in a small cage with a concrete floor in Europe’s ‘worst zoo’ in Fier, Albania. With no protection from the elements, no medical or species appropriate care - he lived a hopeless existence.

Now Bobby gets the care he needs

Because of the environment Bobby was kept in when we found him, he initially suffered from an infected wound, infested with maggots. Whilst we were able to treat his surface wounds effectively, sadly he continues to suffer from kidney issues which will require ongoing intensive care and medication for the rest of his life.

Bobby’s start in life was not a life he deserved. However, since moving to FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary, Bobby loves to take long naps in a specially adapted hammock, which has made it easy for his caretakers to monitor him closely.

Bobby is one of the 220 big cats we have rescued. In our Sanctuaries, animals leave cracking whips, barren concrete floors and torturous boredom behind, experiencing dignified and species-appropriate conditions for the rest of their lives. 

As a big cat sponsor, you will receive behind-the-scenes access to life at FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary from the lion’s caretakers themselves. Not only will you continue to hear about Bobby, but you’ll also get to meet the other lovely residents he shares his home with.

  • £5 a month could feed a rescued lion for a day.
  • £10 a month could help to medically treat and continuously care for animals in captivity and transfer them to our sanctuaries around the world.
  • £20 a month could provide lion cubs with special milk formula for a week.
  • A generous monthly gift of £50 could help to fund the full care of an orphaned baby cub in one of our sanctuaries for a month.
