Abandoned dog family
Kaya was found together with her mother and siblings in an industrial area in Bulgaria with no access to food or water. After they were found, volunteers took them to the local Municipal Shelter.
From dog in need to therapy pet
During a visit to the shelter, FOUR PAWS’ staff noticed Kaya’s remarkably gentle behaviour towards people, which made her an ideal candidate for our Animal Assisted Intervention Programme (AAI).
After visiting Kaya several times in the shelter to assess her suitability for the AAI Programme our very own FOUR PAWS colleague, Petya became her new carer.
Kaya successfully completed her training to become a therapy dog and now gives back by supporting young adults with behavioural disorders.
The FOUR PAWS’ AAI requires experienced dog trainers to train dogs like Kaya. Yearly, the programme delivers over 200 animal assisted sessions for children and adults with learning difficulties, disabilities and behavioural disorders.
