Push DEFRA to act for a fur free Britain

Email the Department for Environment, Food and Rural affairs (DEFRA) today to urge them to publish the summary of nearly 30,000 responses that were submitted in response to the 2021 call for evidence on the UK fur trade.

It’s been 20 years since the Fur Farming Prohibition Act (2000) came into force in the UK, shutting down the last remaining fur farms for good. Yet 20 years later, we still import up to £70 million of fur every single year.

With over 1 million signatures calling for a #FurFreeBritain, and over two years having passed since the call for evidence closed, it is high time that DEFRA publish the consultation responses and their evidence-based policy response on this issue.

Despite monumental support for the #FurFreeBritain campaign, with members of the fashion industry such as New Look and Frasers Group recently committing to being fur-free, DEFRA continues to remain silent on their findings from this consultation.

We need to hear what the Government’s plan is to address the fur trade and end the UK’s role in this cruelty.
