For years, 22-year-old bear Yavor's world has been a barren concrete enclosure at Zoo Lovech in Bulgaria.
With no grass beneath his paws, nothing to climb or explore, and nowhere to retreat from the gaze of visitors, Yavor has been denied the chance to live as a bear should. He has even been deprived of the opportunity to bathe, an essential natural behaviour for brown bears.
At the request of the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water, FOUR PAWS has agreed to relocate Yavor to BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa, with support from the Fondation Brigitte Bardot.
At BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa, Yavor will finally experience a species-appropriate environment. He will have grass beneath his feet, room to roam, and water to bathe in, simple comforts that have been denied to him for far too many years.
Your gift today, is hope for animals like Yavor, can we count on you today?
Ending inappropriate keeping
Yavor’s rescue marks another significant milestone in the FOUR PAWS campaign, which has been working since 2021 to improve conditions for wild animals in Bulgarian zoos:
His new life at our sanctuary will help to reduce the number of bears currently living at the Bulgarian zoo and allow to begin urgent needed enclosure renovations.
Your gift enables us to continue to provide the ongoing care for rescued animals and to keep fighting the good fight.
On behalf of the animals and the FOUR PAWS team would like to thank you!
