Dear Prime Minister Starmer
I am very pleased that a Labour government banned fur farming in 2000, making the UK the first country in the world to do so. Please now take another historic step by taking urgent action to stop fur imports and sales. Let’s end our association with fur cruelty for good.
I am completely opposed to the immense suffering caused to tens of millions of animals each year in the international fur trade. I support Humane Society International's campaign to ban fur imports and sales in the UK and create a #FurFreeBritain.
Inflicting cruelty on animals for frivolous fashion is deplorable. Existing laws prohibit the sale of cat, dog and seal fur but the UK should now fully close its borders to this cruel trade, reflecting the view of over three quarters of the British public who reject this double-standard and support a fur import and sales ban.
More and more countries are following the UK's lead and banning fur farming. California has already blazed a trail by banning fur sales, and by becoming the first country in the world to ban fur imports and sales we would once again make the UK a world leader in animal protection.
Please ban fur imports and sales-let’s end this double-standard and stop outsourcing suffering.
